about

This is another track from the World at Night project with Shawn Brice, co-written with the amazing keyboardist and Bon Vivant Chad Lilly.

Been hanging around for years. Finally finished thanks to the covid lockdown.

lyrics

sometimes it's more than I can bear
to feel the brush of memory
faded scenes in aching silence
a waking moment like a dream

peering past life's worn grey window shades
promises I made too lightly
and all the love for which I've paid

the rags and bones of loss
through the frosted glass of years I've seen
a picture book of sad reminders
the weight of all
there used to be

in a foreign room
in a foreign time
of all the stories I could have written
how did I end up with mine?

locked away in the fragile sunlit dreams I hold
photographs of distant shadows
a taste of all
that might not be

peering past life's worn grey window shades
promises I made in silence
a yearning for
some kind of grace

in a foreign room
in a foreign time
of all the stories I could have written
how did I end up with mine?

in a foreign room
in a foreign time
if a world is made of stories then,
it seems I've forgotten mine

peering past life's worn grey window shades
promises I made too lightly
and all the love for which I've paid

in a foreign room
in a foreign time
if a world is made of stories then,
it seems I've forgotten mine

in a foreign room
in a foreign time
of all the stories I could have written
how did I end up with mine?

how did I end up with mine?
